WHY?
Another record label? In these times, with the economy, the mp3 blogs, the dwindling sales everywhere? Indeed, why?
We're firm believers in the necessity of music to be presented in a physical medium that complements and even further expands the artistic value of the work. Not as a commercial package compiled for the sake of collectors or fetishists, but as a complete piece of art imbued with personal meaning, created in order to stand the passing of time, not be thrown away after the novelty of first two months passes. While we do not deny that the future of music distribution lies in the digital domain, we believe that there will always be some space for this, perhaps alternative, at this point, way of presentation.
Moreover, we're people actively involved in the music underground and we have a pretty good knowledge of how it is being a new artist struggling to put out his or her work, and especially the kind of artists that do not make compromises in order to bring out their potential and create something that is honest and unique. We would like to help artists that lack the knowledge or time to promote their work, who produce excellent art that unfortunately stays on the shelves (or hard disks) because it is not something that can be immediately exploited by the music industry. Essentially we are a do-it-yourself label: We don't really do anything you can't do by yourself, the difference being of course, that we do it, we don't talk about doing it. (hey, no pun intended!)
WHO?
Some guys, somewhere in a dark basement, downtown Athens, Greece. That's all you need to know for the time being!
WHAT?
We're not a genre-specific label. We will practically release everything that feels special, "new" or downright awesome to our ears, within some limits that our cultural influences and aesthetics allow, of course. Our main focus lies in expansive, abstract, meditative and psychedelic art, most commonly referred to as "ambient" although that's just the tip of the iceberg. The imprint "New Age Dawn" deals with rock-based music (especially heavy metal and punk) and who knows what else might come in the future?
YOU GUYS ARE COOL, CAN YOU RELEASE MY DEMO?
We'd love to hear your work, but we're unfortunately a small label with limited resources on what we can put out. Generally, we tend to search for the artists we end up releasing, not the opposite, so we always have some ongoing projects which makes it hard or even impossible for more to pile up. However, if you're really really confident about your work and you find a certain connection with our releases, aesthetics and what you've already read up to here, you are encouraged to get in contact. But, hey, we can't promise anything, although we will get back to you and possibly offer you some feedback. Better get in touch first by mail though before sending anything.
